Creative Communal Makers Market Review
After relocating to San Diego and relaunching Turtle Heights in 2021, we were excited to get out there to be part of the community and meet our customers in person. Earlier this year, we stumbled across an awesome event called the Creative Communal Makers Market, and we were lucky enough to get accepted as a vendor for the Oceanside April Artisan Market.
More About The Market
Creative Communal is an outdoor makers market held in multiple locations in California from San Francisco, Anaheim, Playa Vista, Long Beach, Oceanside, and more. They normally feature 30 - 40 unique local makers, blast great music by local musicians, and host family friendly activities.
Vendor Info
Check out the event schedule and submit an application for your preferred location.
The vending fee varies by location. For a 6’x6’ booth at Oceanside, the fee is $125 and you can opt-in to an additional $25 - 50 for a social media shoutout which is limited to only a certain number of vendors, first-come first-served.
They don’t offer any supplies so you’ll need to bring your own table, chairs, umbrella (no canopies allowed), and whatever else you need for your booth set-up.
Event Review
There are some large events out there with hefty booth fees and non-refundable application fees which can be quite daunting for an independent artist starting up a small business.
The Creative Communal Makers Market has reasonable booth fees, and they don’t charge an application fee.
The Oceanside market is held at the lots of Rising Co, a hip retail/coffee shop that partners with local artists & Pacific Coast Spirits, a small batch draft craft distillery, and the vendors are split up into about 15 or so on each lot.
The weather was overcast when we were there but still there was a decent amount of foot traffic (roughly 500 - 800 people). The crowd is mostly locals in the neighborhood and a bit family oriented but since the market is held at an intersection, a good number of people stopped by on their drive through the area as well. The staff also put together cool decorations & signs to make the event stand out and the live music helped to attract any passersby.
The makers range from jewelry designers, artists, clothing designers, shoes & bag makers, to soap & candle makers, and more, and it was awesome to be amongst all these creative artisans like Ember & Onyx - check out her amazing collection of handmade jewelry!
