Getting Started As An Artist

How did you get into art?

I always had creative juices flowing in me, and I wanted to pursue a career as an artist but exterior factors like job security, finances, self-doubt, and fear prevented me from doing so for the longest time.

In 2015, my husband and I moved out to San Francisco for a new job opportunity. My office was a few steps away from the Ferry Market Building so during my lunch shift, I’d sit by the piers and draw to help myself decompress and rub away the stress from work. I got great support from friends and family when I posted a few of those doodles on social media, and that led to my first stickers in 2017!

Fast forward to now, I continue to create art and I have expanded my collection from stickers to unique art prints, trippy postcards, cute buttons, funny shirts and sustainable tote bags. My goal is to try new mediums and bring you unique & vibrant products.

Why Turtle Heights?

Once my husband and I moved to San Francisco, we fully indulged ourselves in the California cannabis culture, and we experienced the recreational boom that was unleashing itself in the Bay Area. My husband and I started using Turtle Heights as a code for “chill time”.

I found a ton of inspiration from cannabis, and I started exploring my new voice in art. In 2018, Turtle Heights was ignited into presence as a means to help de-stigmatize weed using art and provide a space where my creations help you chill and enjoy life!

What will this blog offer?

I left my 9-5 job to pursue a full career in art and run my small business, Turtle Heights. I won’t lie, it was quite scary jumping into the unknown, but I’m so happy I made that leap. I’m learning a ton of stuff along the way, and I want to use this blog as a platform to share helpful information and exciting insights with you!

I’ll be posting tips, best practices, processes, reviews, design tricks, artist interviews, and more!
